Police on Monday arrested five people, including a Jaipur-based woman
journalist and a police constable in Ajmer, for duping candidates of
the eligibility exam for teachers in the state in the name of leaking
question papers and answer keys.
Police constable Mukesh Kumar and Manju Sevda, who worked in a
Hindi-daily in Jaipur, were the masterminds of the conspiracy, said
police. The other gang members included a Haryana village sarpanch,
Karan Singh, and his two associates.
“We arrested five people and recovered from them fake REET question papers and answer keys,” said Manoj Machara, circle inspector, Jayal police station.
A sum of Rs 7.5 lakh and two cars were recovered from the accused, who were produced before a local magistrate on Monday and remanded to two days in police custody.
The arrests were made on the complaint of Shrawan Kumar and four other candidates who claimed that the accused had duped them on the pretext of leaking the question paper of the Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teachers (REET). The complainants had paid Rs 7.5 lakh for the REET question paper, but realised that they had been duped after the questions did not match those in the actual paper, said Machara.
Meanwhile, Ajmer police on Sunday rounded up eight people from 3 exam centres, while Jayal police picked up four others from a photocopy shop for possessing the answer key to the REET paper.
