REET Exam - 38 held for attempt to leak exam paper

Alwar: In a major breakthrough to curb the malpractice of copying and paper leaking during the Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teachers (REET), a team of special operation group (SOG) in association with police of various districts arrested 38 persons for alleged attempt to leak the paper. A high-tech gang of Bharatpur was also busted that had got bluetooth installed in shoes to facilitate candidates in copying.
Twelve accused were arrested from Bharatpur, 12 from Jhunjhunu, 8 from Jodhpur commissionerate, 5 from Nagaur and one from Dausa. Most of the accused were planning to sell the fake examination paper claiming it to be genuine, except those at Bharatpur. The Bharatpur gang had a different modus operandi as they had planned to get the original copy of the paper prior to the exam and distribute it among the aspirants by charging Rs 5 lakh per person.

The arrested accused at Bharatpur included one employee of district education office, Bharatpur, and an armyman of 10th battalion of 13 Grenadier.

According to police, seven members of the gang, all from different professions, were in connivance with an employee of the district education office and had conspired to get an original copy of the examination paper which they planned to sell. Five others were arrested while they were planning to purchase the leaked paper. Police were probing if both groups were inter-linked.

Bharatpur police have also seized Rs 4 lakh cash, sandals having chip placed on the ankle, sim cards, laptops, bluetooth device, scanners and a cash counting machine from their possession.

"We have busted two gangs who were involved in getting the original examination paper and another involved in distributing it to the aspirants at a high price. Our teams have also seized a number of photo copies of admit cards from their possession," said a senior officer of Bharatpur police station on Sunday.
